What is nose surgery?

Nose Surgery Explained

Rhinoplasty, Septoplasty and Otolaryngology

They are either performed as a cosmetic procedure or for medical reasons. A nasal trauma procedure can fix a deviated septum, correct breathing problems, reshape or resize the nose and bring harmony to your facial features.
Nose surgery is performed on adults of all ages. The average price can range anywhere between $6,000-$10,000 depending on your location and doctor. The surgery price includes the use of the surgical facility, surgeon's fee, blood work or tests and anesthesia. In some cases, rhinoplasty may be covered by insurance if it is for medical reasons.
The process involves several steps done over a few visits to the doctor, hospital or cosmetic surgical center. It always starts with a consultation with the doctor and a clear discussion about possibilities, risks and expectations. The day of surgery will consist of the following:
  • Removal of all jewelry and makeup
  • Forms and payment checks
  • Anesthesia is given by gas or IV
  • Hooked up to monitors to measure heart rate and oxygen
  • Surgery is performed
  • Bandages are applied and your nose protected
  • You recover and wake up gradually
  • You will go home after you are fully awake
You will be restricted on what you can eat, drink and do post-op. You will experience swelling, bruising and redness for the first week or two. All physical activities should be avoided for a few weeks. It is also wise to stay away from blood thinners and from applying any weight or contact to your new nasal bones for up to 8 weeks.
